Catahoula Rescue, Inc. is a nonprofit, 501(c) 3 corporation staffed entirely by volunteers who try to help Catahoulas and Catahoula mixes escape needless death and find a happy home. Volunteers provide foster care and basic training for dogs that they rescue from pounds, keeping them safe and preparing them to join their new families.

Foster homes are needed in all parts of the country! You can make arrangements to foster one of “Monday’s Dogs” by contacting the Catahoula Rescue volunteer listed as contact for the specific dog you are interested in helping. Transportation can be arranged to bring the dog to you and from your home to a forever home. If you cannot take a dog into your home but would still like to help, you might consider becoming a "virtual foster". Virtual fosters sponsor a rescue dog's boarding costs until an adopter or foster home is found or donate towards vet bills for a sick or injured dog.

Please see the Donation links at the bottom of the page.
*If you would like to receive Monday's Dogs as a weekly email newsletter please email the editor to be added to the mailing list.  If you would like to un-subscribe click Here.

Stitch
North Carolina
406-323-3519
Adopt Me

Stitch is an awesome dog with some really good dog pack manners, considering that he lives with quite a varied pack in his temporary foster home. His foster mom is SO impressed with him. We are hoping he will soon have his permanent home. He has been through a lot and needs so badly to belong. Don't we all?? His name is Stitch. This nice boy just about didn't make it out of the high kill shelter. The shelter staff were very impressed with him. He is in temporary foster care, has all his vetting done and is ready to go now into a new home. He loves to play ball and he is good with dogs that are not confrontational. We feel a nice female that is very congenial and loves to play would be the best match for him or a nice easy going male would possibly work. No alpha dominant in your face females or males. He will stand his ground if another dog jumps onto him. Who wouldn't? The alpha female in the foster home he gets along with but she just guards resources and will jump him out of the blue. He showed too much interest in cats even though you can put him in check at first but now seems to be settling in with the cats so cats are possible with supervision. . He does like to play with children but he does get a bit mouthy and he will nip and heel a bit in play. Some of that will go away. Foster Mom says he is really a VERY NICE DOG with nice manners. His photos don't do him justice.

Rusty
Nebraska

Adopt Me

He is a great dog - energetic, loyal, tough as nails but very affectionate. He barks loudly when people come to visit, and he is a jumper, but he is always excited to see new people. We have only had problems with him and children under the age of 1. I think he would do very well with older children who know how to interact with dogs properly. He is never far from me or my husband, always underfoot or leaning onto our laps. He can run forever without show any signs of fatigue. He has never had health problems since we got him from the shelter. He's 90 pounds, 5 years old, up to date on shots, etc.

Adopt Me

Update **07.16.10** Still Waiting for a forever home! Please help before it is too late ! Hi there, I'm Merlin. Pretty cool name huh? If there was an award for the world's friendliest dog, I would win it - hands down! I am happy, friendly, very playful, and just love everyone! I am a little over 1 year old and am a Catahoula Leopard dog mix. I am very unique looking. I have a little white in the iris of my right eye that just makes me irresistable. Like the other Merlin I am very smart and know a few tricks. Just ask me to sit or stay. I can do either of them all day long. I can also wait and come. I love going to obedience classes with my volunteer friends here at Heartland. I love the one-on-one time with the trainers. I can't wait to continue training classes with my new family. I hope you like to play? I sure do!! What's your favorite game? Fetch? What a coincidence...that's mine too? I have a lot of energy and can't wait to play with you.

LuAnn
Ferryville, WI
406-323-3519
Adopt Me

Update **07.16.10**Still Waiting for a forever home! Please help before it is too late ! According to her foster, Luann is a "loving gal who is very friendly and loves to go for walks and runs. Great for car riding, but would say, 'please don't put me in a cage.' She takes awhile to get on with other dogs but now gets on great with her dog family in her new foster home and she loves cats. She would be fine with older children who wouldn't try to pull her tail or ears; hers appear to have suffered some damage in her past. We are working on that and she is doing very well. She is house-broken and also loves her time outdoors. In the house she is very quiet, but will need training early on if left loose alone. (Talk with us about that.) She does not like to go into crates, so if this will be necessary, it will need some work. LuAnn knows some basic commands and will work great in a family willing to give her a chance to know she is loved and will help her to forget her past treatment which, we suspect, hasn't always been kind. So if you're looking for a sweet gal who has lots of love to give, Luann is the gal for you!"

Catahoulas make excellent watchdogs, especially on ranches, farms and other wide-open spaces. Adopt Me

*****Lexie is a lot of dog.I am still on the fence as to her breed but she could be Catahoula. She has interacted with a yellow lab run easy male and does well with him. Not recommended with cats or other female dogs in the home. Not a dog park type dog. Again another sweetie to handle as far as loving humans but she is tough on leash. Well they have ... See Morebeen cooped up for a long time, waiting waiting waiting. She is strong. She needs someone to really make sure they have her leash secured. I recommend a prong collar. They are safe and work well. *******Lexie is in dire urgency. She is in temporary foster care in Tennessee. She is part of a group of dogs we call the "Frontier Dogs", they come from many different walks of life and sadly we do not know all of their stories, and hopefully the next chapters of their lives will be written with much tenderness and happiness. We call them the “Frontier Dogs” because they will now be are entering a new frontier. Many were taken from shelters and abusive situations with the best of intentions, only to have them end up back in a similar and in some ways much worse situation. Now for many this will be their third and forth chance at new a beginning, and this time there CAN be no failure, they will be entering a fresh “Frontier”, a new beginning. Please open your hearts to these dogs. They are all gentle souls, with big hearts, that need love, time and patience. If you cannot adopt, please donate or foster.
